The EarthWatch is made up of a small group of concerned individuals working in field of Environment and Sustainable Development and other external contributors from all fields of endeavors within and outside the country.
 

Peter Cookey, President & Publisher

Mr. Peter Cookey founded Cookey Environmental & Public Health Services from which EarthWatch sprung. He is an environmental and development expert with strong focus on water, wastewater and sanitation. Peter is an accomplished Health, Safety and Environmental practitioner, serving as employee and then consultant over the years.

 

Mr. Cookey has over 15 years experience in environmental issues; and more than eight years experience in development issues. During his stint with the oil & gas industry he discovered a lot of deliberate misinformation concerning environmental issues and community development, which led to the birth of EarthWatch in 2001. Plus, as a resource person in various Public Health and environmental workshops and conferences, he developed an interest in communicating environmental and development issues from the right perspective.

 

While with Anpez Centre for Environmental and Development (then Anpez Environmental Law Centre), he conducted several researches and trainings, some for lawyers in about five states in the country on Environmental Law. Mr. Cookey has had several of his papers published in local and international journals, and some local newspapers. He has also presented several papers at conferences and workshops, locally and internationally.

 

Peter Cookey attended the Rivers State School of Technology (now Rivers State College of Health Science & Technology), where he got an HND in Public Health and then the University of Port Harcourt where he got another HND in Science Laboratory Technology programme, Physiology and Pharmacology option and a PGD in Environmental Microbiology. He also has a Masters degree in Environmental Management from the Imo State University. He is currently a Lecturer with the School of Environmental Health, Rivers State College of Health Science and Technology.

 

Mayowa Peter-Cookey, Vice President & Executive Director, & Editor-in-Chief

Mayowa Peter-Cookey is a talented writer and has a published book to her credit, with another one on the way. She is the CEO of Abby Pet-DreamBuilders-ent, a motivational/inspirational outfit involved with publishing, seminar/conference/workshop organizations, ideas development and trainings. A lover of the young, she is involved in teenage counseling and has spoken to several teen groups and individuals changing their lives. Her book ‘You Don’t Have To Stay Down’ is a motivational masterpiece that has affected a lot of lives.

 

Mayowa gained her first experience in the media world during her NYSC with the Nigerian Television Authority, Ibadan (first in Africa) where she served as a news-writer. She then moved on to Prex Ltd, a production cum promotion firm in Lagos.

 

Mayowa who believes in expressing all her God-given abilities and talents, is also a songwriter and singer. Her first album is soon to hit the airwaves. She is a public speaker and has spoken several times at the quarterly meeting of the Institute of Corporate Resource Management, South-South, South-East chapter ( of which she is a fellow). Mayowa Peter-Cookey is a graduate of Philosophy from the then Ondo State University, OSUA (now University of Ado Ekiti, UNAD) and has a Masters of Science in International Relations from the University of Port Harcourt.

 

Joy Chijindu Oriaku, Staff Writer, Advertising & Marketing Executive

Joy Chijindu Oriaku has good oral and writing skills with excellent analytical skill. Joy has published various articles in The Rotaract Club Magazine. She love research and development activities.

Joy gained her first experience in the media and in workshop organization during her student’s days in the University with the Rotaract Club and also during her NYSC at Aleka Academy Ankpa, Kogi State as a Public Relations Officer and Teacher. She then moved on to EarthWatch.

 

Joy Chijindu Oriaku is a graduate of Industrial Chemistry from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka and has attended a certificate programme on Health Safety and Environment Management System.

 

Patrick Ekot, Staff Writer, Circulation & Programme Executive

Patrick Ekot has an excellent writing and analytical skill. He has been involved in a lot of project management activities in his previous working experiences and has published various articles in local newspapers in the country. He loves research and development activities.

Patrick Ekot is a graduate of Biotechnology/Biochemistry from the University of Calabar, and has attended a certificate on Computer Programming and is very skilled in data management.

 

Ijeoma Nwokorie, Administrative Officer & Head Schools Projects

Ijeoma Nwokorie has good administrative skills. She has being involved in a lot of project management activities in EarthWatch Magazine. She is currently undertaking a first degree in English Education at Alvan Ikoku College of Education, Owerri, Nigeria. She loves research and development activities
