BACKGROUND:

EWRI is an institute that seeks to enhance the effectiveness of key developmental issues that enables you to collect, produce and disseminate information about science, environment and technology.                   

 

EWRI supports information access and communication technology (ICT) as a key factor in socio-economic development of any nation and her people. This issue is viewed as equity, social justice and the right to communication.

 

EWRI believes that you cannot use yesterday’s technology to solve today’s problem, therefore there is need to find solutions to our present problem with new and appropriate technology.

 

EWRI affirms that it is now the turn of Africa, especially Nigeria, to find and lead way out of the many myriads of problems that face the Third World in this 21st century.

 

EWRI is of the opinion that we have to stop looking outside for solution to our problems; we must begin to search within ourselves for these solutions. This is because our problems are peculiar to us and the appropriate solutions can only come from those who live with the problems.

 

 

 

 

MISSION STATEMENT:

EWRI is an independent forum created for knowledge-seekers and change-makers to share and develop new strategies for tackling the challenges of the 21st century in the area of science, environment, development and technology.

 

OBJECTIVES:

EWRI’s objective is to improve the knowledge base of its members on Environment, Science, Technology and Social Development. The real danger that the EWRI may face would be to want to tackle all problems and solving little. That is why we will initially focus on the following core issues:

  2. Water Supply and Sanitation
  3. Information & Communication Technology
  4. Poverty Eradication
  5. Public/Environmental Health
  6. Investment Promotion & Institutional Capacity-Building
  7. Gender Issues
  8. Youth Development
  9. Education
  10. Transportation
  11. Population & Development Strategies
  12. Waste Management
  13. Housing.

 

MEMBERSHIP:

EWRI is open to individuals and organizations working in the field of:

 

  1. Environmental Management
  2. Health
  3. Law
  4. Media
  5. Engineering
  6. Science
  7. Vocational/Professional Education
  8. Social Sciences
  9. Communication/Information Technology
  10. Tourism/Hospitality Management.

 

EWRI is also open to people and organizations outside these areas, who have a genuine interest in the core area of the Institute.

 

MEMBERSHIP CLASSES

The classes of membership shall consist of the following:-

(a)   Informational Members: This category of members has interest in the Institute technical information. Informational members are kept abreast of the latest information and issues in the field of development and environment, but do not actively participate in the development and environment writing committees.

  1. Participatory Member: Actively contribute to the work of the development and environment writing committees. They also play active role in the publications of various development and environment reports, standards and reviews of technical documents in the Institute focus areas. This work is done in a unique professional environment, which draw from top players in the fields. Through the participation in the technical work of the Institute participating members are personally involve in the development of intellectual capital that is on the cutting edge of new trend in the field of environment and development.
  2. Organisational Member: May be an organisation, a firm or corporation, a governmental agency or any such body in the field of environment and development issues. Organisation members have the satisfaction of knowing their support serves the public good,, while contributing to the growth of their employees, their industries, and the world at large.
  3. Student Member:
  4. Fellows: shall be persons to whom the Institute wishes to grant special recognition to. Nominations for Fellows must be made to the council and must be approved by a unanimous vote of council Members voting.

 

 

BENEFIT:

  1. EWRI allows you to join the network, receive regular information via emails and post regarding the Institutes activities and activities around the world. It also allows members to attend seminars, workshops and conferences held in Nigeria, African region and outside of the region.

Members will also receive copies of EarthWatch, State of the Nigerian Environment Annual Report, Updates, News Clips, etc, at a subsidized rate

  1. EWRI will also enable you to submit projects and reports to our database. The interdisciplinary nature of the Institute will enable multi-faceted research and projects to be undertaken.
  2. EWRI membership allows members free access to the Institute’s Research facilities/services. However, non-members will pay for entry into the research hall and for all other required services.
  3. EWRI also offers members the opportunity to publish their works under the Institute’s label. It also offers exposure into the top class group of our core areas.

 

  1. EWRI membership allows you to make use of our Documentation/Research Center containing fact sheets, books and periodicals, computerized data, bibliographies and contact database on a lot of issues.
  2. EWRI membership enables you benefit by association, capitalizing on shared ideas and initiatives, providing opportunities for interdisciplinary discussions, projects, papers and information. It is hoped that as we develop that interdisciplinary team of experts and practitioners, this team can be assembled to tackle complex and far-reaching problems.
  3. EWRI membership will facilitate your owning your email account. This will allow you to send and receive emails independent of any other organization you work for. This will facilitate your participation in our e-conference and receive our e-bulletin regularly. There shall also be a special training on the use of Internet and emails.
  4. EWRI will fortnightly send to you e-newsletter relating to her core issues. This will provide a synthesis of a wide range of information from credible and tested sources, emailed directly to your mailbox.

 

Once you register with EWRI we will automatically send you details of how to receive emails from your new email address.

 

EWRI is all about collaboration and participation; we have outlined some ideas that will benefit all of us both morally and financially. But, we will need your input and commitment to make our ideas a reality. If you feel that we should be doing things differently or developing additional services or facilities, then let us know.

 


















To improve the relationship between man and his environment; to improve the quality of the earth, inform and educate the people about the earth or environment, to enhance self reliance and concern for the earth’s resources and to help people avoid, prepare for, and cope with the earth’s abuse and sudden reaction.
